Recall Service in Richland County

By Denny Hart, Service Advisor | With Matt Weekley, Owner — Weekley CDJR

If you drive a Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram anywhere around Butler or Mansfield, you have probably gotten a recall notice in the mail at some point. Maybe you set it on the counter. Maybe it went into a drawer. Maybe you looked at it and thought, “My vehicle runs fine — I will get to it later.”

Most people do not think about recalls until something goes wrong. But here in Richland County, where we have been taking care of our neighbors’ vehicles since 1921, we want to talk about recalls the way we would talk to someone sitting across the desk from us — straight, honest, and without the runaround.

“Let me take a look at it and tell you exactly what is going on. That is what we do. We do not upsell you on things you do not need. We tell you what the recall says, what it means for your vehicle, and how we are going to take care of it.”

What a Recall Actually Means

A safety recall is issued when either the manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) determines that a vehicle or component has a defect that could affect safety.

Here is the part that matters: recall repairs are always free. It does not matter if you bought your vehicle new from us, bought it used from a lot in Mount Vernon, or inherited it from a family member. If your VIN has an open recall, you are entitled to the repair at no charge at any authorized Stellantis dealer.

Why Independent Shops Cannot Do Recall Work

We get this question a lot, especially from drivers out in Knox County who might have a trusted local mechanic. That is fine for routine maintenance, but recall work requires access to the manufacturer’s warranty system, proprietary software update tools, and OEM replacement parts allocated specifically for recall campaigns.

Independent shops cannot flash your vehicle’s software or order recall-specific parts through the Stellantis system.

How to Check for Open Recalls

  • NHTSA Recall Lookup: Go to nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter your 17-character VIN.
  • Call Our Service Department: We pull directly from the Stellantis database, which is often more current than NHTSA for CDJR vehicles. Takes two minutes. No charge.
  • Check Your Mail: Notices are sent to the registered address. If you moved recently, running your VIN is more reliable.
